Why Herbal?
Some herbal bowel cleansers help with chronic constipation problems, improve overall effectiveness of the immune system and also help reduce the chance of contracting more serious conditions or diseases of the bowels.
The mucous membrane of the rectum/colon is extremely porous. It will readily absorb administered drugs and herbs with fast delivery to the target area via the bloodstream. This route will produce the same effect as orally administered herbs/drugs, however it acts a lot faster: so many times you will see the effect of an enema in minutes due to the blood delivery via the portal veins and into the general circulation. Hence this route is excellent for delivery, for example, of fever reducing herbs to reduce temperature quickly, or herbs for soothing and nourishing the intestinal membrane. The enema is administered at a temperature 36 to 40 degre Celsius.
What type Enema is used?
The type of Enema used for your treatment is caled a Retention enema. It means injecting a solution into the rectum and holding for a specific period of time. An implant or retention enema generally uses only enough liquid to fill the rectum and possibly the sigmoid colon. These enemas can be anything from 500mls to 1 litre of solution: some people will be able to hold the full litre others will only be half depending upon the size of the sigmoid colon and rectum and other factors.
